I never knew that as a junior in high school I would totally fall in love with someone I never thought I would date. We grew up together. We went to the same schools and really started becoming friends my freshman year of high school. I got to know him when I started doing sports medicine for the football team. Nathan was always someone I joked around with. He was always so funny and that’s something I never forgot. Who knew that him jokingly flirting with me during practices would turn into a relationship?
Looking back now I realize how much of a flirt he actually was. We had a few classes together but it wasn’t until my junior year that we really sat down and talked to each other. Our class was an online class and we luckily got to have it the same period. I didn’t have any other friends in that class so having him there made me feel a lot better. I knew he would make that class more fun!
In November of 2013 is when we really started talking a lot. We texted a ton! I honestly just talked to him as a friend. I never thought it would lead to anything more than that. I still remember in December he got upset that I didn’t invite him to go with my family to the aquarium and to something special Atlanta was doing that we went to. I mean how was I supposed to know? I didn’t think anything of it. As January came around I remember him surprising me with flowers and a card on my birthday. When he did that I really started to realize we were more than just friends. A month later on Valentines Day is when he asked me to be his girlfriend. That is a another story for another day!
After 6 months of dating Nathan was heading off to college and I was starting my senior year of high school. I knew it was going to be tough but we would get through it. Nathan and I got serious pretty fast. I think us being friends before dating really impacted our relationship in the long run. I was so nervous about him going off to school.
After about a month of him being gone he came home one night without me knowing. I got a call from my friend and she told me to go outside because she had a surprise for me. I opened the front door and walked towards the garage. Standing right there was Nathan. He had the biggest smile on his face as he gave me a hug and a kiss. He then proceeded to tell me he had a surprise for me and pulled out the ring. Oh what a surprise it was!
This ring was more than just a ring. It was a symbol of our relationship. A promise we made to always be faithful. A promise to never give up on our relationship. A promise we made to each other. I was so excited to wear this as it was a symbol of our love.
With us being so young I know people think we’re crazy. But hey, it’s okay. We have a strong foundation and can get through anything as long as we have each other and trust in God.
I wear this ring every single day. It has been two and a half years and I am still in love with this man. Even more than ever before. We have grown so much as individuals and as a couple. There’s so much going for us and our future. I know God has a special plan in store for us!
